The Best Gift We Unknowingly Gave Ourselves : Holiday Cleaning Service

Our regular cleaning day happened the day after Christmas.

It wasn’t something we initially planned for, but it ended up being a gift we didn’t even know we’d given ourselves. After the whirlwind of Christmas morning—presents everywhere, wrapping paper piled high, and crumbs from cookies and snacks in every corner—they swooped in and gave our home the reset it desperately needed. Walking into a spotless house the day after the holiday madness was pure bliss.

What I’d Do Differently Next Year

While this year’s cleaning schedule worked wonders, it also got me thinking: What if we added one more cleaning right before Christmas guests arrive? Having guests over and hosting meals often means parts of the house that usually don’t get as much attention—like the guest room or the formal dining area—become the focus. If I could go back, I’d consider scheduling an extra cleaning specifically for those spaces we don’t normally prioritize. That or what if we added ons some extra rooms or services we don’t usually use.

A deeper clean after the big day could include tasks like:

  • Shampooing carpets in high-traffic areas.
  • Dusting guest rooms or seldom-used spaces.
  • Cleaning the Oven that had extra use
  • Polishing windows and glass for a sparkling holiday glow.

It’s something I’ll definitely keep in mind for next year. After all, the less I’m worrying about those last-minute details, the more I can actually enjoy the holiday season.

The Hidden Costs of Not Hiring a Cleaner During the Holiday

Now, let’s talk about costs. Sure, hiring a cleaner is an upfront expense, and if you’re trying to manage your household budget, it can feel hard to justify. But think about this: What’s the cost of your time and sanity during the most busy time of the year? Look I am not saying you have to get a cleaner all year round we happened into it and haven’t turned back since, but if I was on a budget I would at least consider it during the holidays.

When we hired our cleaner, we quickly realized that we were actually buying back our time. And as any parent knows, time is priceless when you have little ones. The cleaners helped us get back the hours we spent on things like vacuuming or mopping so we could use that time to do what really mattered—like spending time with our kids (or in our case, just surviving and picking up the daily messes – it was so hard to fit deep cleaning in on a regular basis!).

In my experience, the investment was more than worth it. It saved me from burning out, and it honestly helped my marriage. No more fights over whose turn it was to clean the bathroom. No more feeling overwhelmed by the never-ending mess. Our home felt fresh and inviting, which made it easier to relax.
