Whether your in a long distance relationship or your schedules are crazy, taking a fun online class is a great date idea. Online classes are not just for learning and bonding but also can be very fun. Many couples on a local level enjoy taking pottery or dances classes in their local city, but you can take the same classes in the convenience of your own home. If you are in a long distance relationship you may have to make some adjustments and with a little creativity taking on an online course can be a great online date idea.  In this article, we will cover our recommendations for online classes couples should take together, where you can find these online courses, as well as some tips on how to make these dates successful.

Classes Couples Can Take Together

You may think that many of these classes we are going to mention should be done with a physical teacher like an art class for example. Although going and taking an art class in your city may be more beneficial it is not impossible to do online, and for some may even be more comfortable knowing the only other person looking at your work is your date.  Here is a list of some fun classes to take as adults.

Cooking: Online cooking courses are some of the most taken online classes. Most all dates revolve around food in some way. Whether you are looking to save a few bucks from eating out less or wanting to eat healthier taking an online cooking course together isn’t just fun, it is delicious. Learning to cook together has not only been fun, but has helped us get closer to our health goals and saved us a lot of money instead of eating out. Language: You are planning a trip to a foreign country and want learn the language before your big trip. Why not spend time together preparing for the trip. There is a variety of languages you can learn and classes for every level. Even if you aren’t going on a trip learning a language most people don’t know can be a great way to share secrets with your date when you are with other people.

Personal Improvement: Yes some of the top online courses that are recommended usually have to do with stress reduction and finances. There are also a lot of courses that are made specifically for dating and strengthening the family. Music: There are lots of classes about music from learning an instrument, music theory, learning to make a beat in Garage Band, and even songwriting.  After taking some online music courses you can have couple jam sessions, or finally, have that dream of having your partner serenade you in front of a bonfire.

Home Improvement: These courses are particularly for those who are thinking of getting a home or like DIY projects around the house. These skills are also great to have to finish the never-ending to-do list around the house.

Getting a degree: Face it you may be both attending college and the last thing you want to do is take another class even if it is for fun. Look at your catalog and just maybe there is a class both of you need or can take together. This is especially helpful if the class requires any group work. It also can help you motivate each other to do your best and finish the class.

Top 5 Free Online Course Websites For Couples:

On many of these sites, you can find free hobby classes, but some courses may cost some money. If they do cost they are generally a lot cheaper than taking a course from a physical instructor.  If money is tight sharing your screen and watching any videos together for long distance relationships can save you money by only needing to buy one course instead of two. Regarless these are great places to find fun online classes for couples.

BYU Independent Study:  BYU has some great free courses.  Not only can you find a variety of religious courses, but they also have courses you can get college credit for. BYU also offers some great free courses in dating and marriage, gardening, and classes you can even receive college credit for.  There are also a great number of general life skills as well as some fun family history classes that many have enjoyed. Udemy: Udemy is a global marketplace for learning and teaching online where students are mastering new skills and achieving their goals by learning from an extensive library of over 55,000 courses taught by expert instructors. Although it is traditionally used for business skills there are several categories from training pets, giving massages, to training for a marathon.

SkillShare: Skillshare is an online learning community with thousands of classes in design, business, tech, and more. Anyone can join the millions of members in their community to learn cutting-edge skills, network with peers and discover new opportunities. It is more creative and business-centric than Udemy but has some fun courses in film, writing, and photography that even the person who doesn’t like the business side of things. One of our personal favorites is the online coking courses from Plated because it can be used as a follow-up dinner date.

Coursera: Coursera provides universal access to the world’s best education, partnering with top universities and organizations to offer courses online. These classes are more towards working towards a degree, and one of the top free online course programs on the internet.

Openculture: has over 1,300 Free online courses from top universities.  We personally have not taken any courses from them, but it has a wide variety of categories. These courses are particularly for those people who enjoy learning for the sake of learning. We notice a lot of history, and political courses, however, there is a variety of different categories.

Open edX: is the open-source platform that powers edX courses and is freely available. With Open edX, educators and technologists can build learning tools and contribute new features to the platform, creating innovative solutions to benefit students everywhere.

Tips for Long Distance Dates

As we mentioned taking an online class as a couple is a great idea, especially for those of you in a long distance relationship.  Here are a few dating tips we have for this date idea.

• Use a Webcam and Screen Share.  Just working on the course together may not be the most fun. Share your creations and work together.
• If it is there is a project and it isn’t for graded credit work on it together through Google Drive and other collaboration software.
• You don’t have to work on them at the exact same time. In long distance relationships you are both busy, and when you are together may want to just talk, which is perfect. Take the course together, but at separate times.  This can be used as a great conversation topic if you run out of ideas, or feel you are talking about the same things all of the time.
• Take a course with a goal in mind. If both of you don’t know how to dance take a dance class online so when you do meet up you can have a fun night on the dance floor.
